Spammers Beware

Some spammers have been signing up for blogs. Like more than half of the blogs signed up for were by spammers or suspected spammers. A suspected spammer is anyone with an email address that implies a commercial purpose.

I don’t really want to do this but I’m going to have to, I think. I have deleted 12 blogs for egregious spamming, I’ve suspended another 11. If you think I have suspended or deleted your blog by mistake, please leave me a message as a comment. Suspended blogs will be deleted after 21 days.

  • I hope that this site becomes something useful with author pages, stories, poems, blogs – something like what the old Author’s haunt pages used to be but with some real dedication.

I know I’m going to use it exactly the way Erin foresaw it. This is going to be the central repository of my works, one place to send everyone.

  • I’m getting a handle on using automated tools to block the spammers. I’ve cut it down to about as a tenth as much as it was earlier in the week. Which is still 8 or 10 splogs a day.

I’ll keep fiddling with it. :)

  • There seems to be a glitch with the Mollom thingie. It doesn’t appear to be allowing any comments at all.

Erin, could I have a blog here?

    Pretty please?

    Hugs,

    Kaleigh Way

  • Done. I made it at kaleighway.tglibrary.com but I can change that if you like. You should get an email about it and the admin password should be the same the password here on the main page.

  • I’ve deactivated Mollom and replaced it with reCAPTCHA which isn’t as smart but also doesn’t need as much effort to configure.

    Whine! Whine!

Erin, I got emails about an account kaleighway and an unverified account, but the passwords don’t work. I tried the “forgot your password” link, but it doesn’t work either.

Sorry to be a problem, but… I am.

    Hugs,

  • There should be a link in one of the emails for you to confirm your email address, that’s what it’s saying that you haven’t done yet.

No, I didn’t get a confirmation email, just passwords.

I mean, there is no link to confirm my email address.

I can’t seem to post a blog? Not that I was going to say much, mind you, but it said ‘registration for blogs is disabled at this time’ or something like that, and I could have swore that when I made my account I could do that.

  • Keep trying Melanie. I’m still trying to find out how to stop spammers from registering and some of my efforts end up blocking regular signups. If it goes on too long, I’ll just force one in for you.
